Strange start to my morning.
My cell phone rings about 3 times at 3:00 a.m. HST. Of course the caller realized the time difference and hung up. The phone call was from my mother's friend, she's an individual in the family emergency communication chain. I wait a few minutes to see if if she leaves a voice mail, no such luck. Just to be safe I call my mom just to make sure her and everyone on the Atlantic side of the states was okay. Two rings into the phone call, a heart racing tone and message-- "the number you are trying to dial is no longer in service....." Part panicked and mind racing I call my mother's friend to confirm the situation. I politely and calmly ask her when she sees my mom today to tell her call her daughter when she gets a chance. Next phone call is to my brother, call goes to his voicemail, I leave a message. So I was getting ready to sit down in front of the computer and figure out the non-emergency police number to request the local police to do a drive. A moment later and much to my relief my brother calls me back in a matter of minutes. Apparently our mom is okay. She informed my brother that she had to have her number changed on account of too many wrong numbers and was starting to get billed for video calls?? My final phone call was to my mom-- she was quite surprised that the phone company changed her number so quickly! She thought she had until noon EST to inform individuals she has a new telephone number.
